
George Sarpong is a leading authority on media regulation, freedom of expression, and democratic governance in Africa, with over two decades of expertise in media and communications law, policy, and institutional reform.
He currently serves as the Executive Secretary of Ghana’s National Media Commission (NMC), where he leads national efforts to safeguard media independence and ensure a pluralistic and professional media environment. Through his work at the NMC, George plays a critical role in designing and implementing policies that insulate the Ghanaian media from political and commercial interference, while promoting accountability and high editorial standards.
A passionate pro-democracy advocate, George Sarpong has been actively involved in media development and governance reform initiatives across the African continent. He was a founding team member of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), and has worked extensively to promote press freedom, human rights, and civic engagement.
