Whether it’s a decline in advertising revenue, layoffs and furloughs at local news publications, attacks on journalists related to the coverage of the pandemic, or spread of misinformation on social media platforms, the public health crisis has come with extra pressure on an industry already facing an unknown future.
Despite these challenges, the crisis has shown a positive effect in the use of technology for news gathering and distribution in ways never seen before. This session seeks to examine
- The effect of the pandemic on the media as regards news gathering, distribution, journalists’ safety, public trust in the media, sustainability and media freedom.
- In what ways the pandemic has changed the practice of journalism
- Opportunities the pandemic has revealed and how the media can take advantage of them
- Lessons gleaned from this crisis useful for the future.
Order of Session
The session will have a moderator and four panellists. The moderator will steer the discussion along the focus identified above. The moderator will also facilitate the question and answer session from the virtual and in-person audience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
