Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo is a seasoned international development expert and senior United Nations diplomat, currently serving as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Congo. With over two decades of experience in multilateral diplomacy and sustainable development, he has been a leading figure in UNESCO’s work across Africa and beyond.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Diallo held several high-level roles within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Most recently, he served as the UNESCO Representative to Nigeria, where he led country-level initiatives in education, science, culture, and communication, strengthening national systems and supporting inclusive development.

UNESCO Representative and Head of Office in Accra, Ghana (2018–2023)
UNESCO Representative in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (2014–2018)
UNESCO Head of Office in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (2009–2013)
Mr. Diallo began his career at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters as a member of Niger’s Permanent Delegation. He later became a Programme Specialist in the Africa Department, where he managed strategic partnerships with the African Union and various sub-regional and regional organizations. In 2006, he was appointed Head of the Section for Regional Organizations and Post-Conflict Situations, where he spearheaded UNESCO’s efforts to address the unique challenges faced by countries in crisis and post-conflict transitions.
His work has been instrumental in advancing continental cooperation in areas such as peacebuilding, post-conflict recovery, education for sustainable development, and the promotion of cultural heritage.
Mr. Diallo holds a degree in Industrial Computer Engineering from the Hautes Études Industrielles in Lille, France, and a Master of Business Administration in International Business Engineering from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion in Paris. His multidisciplinary background reflects his commitment to innovation, institutional capacity-building, and inclusive development across Africa.
