
Her Excellency Samira Bawumia is a renowned Ghanaian public figure, humanitarian, and global advocate for women’s rights, health equity, and literacy. As former Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, she has leveraged her platform to champion social development, uplift the underprivileged, and drive transformative initiatives across education, healthcare, and gender equality.
She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP)—a not-for-profit organization committed to empowering vulnerable populations through sustainable interventions in health, education, and women’s empowerment. Under her leadership, SEHP has restocked libraries in basic schools across Ghana, inspiring a national reading culture and positioning Ghana as a future literacy powerhouse. The foundation has also equipped rural hospitals and clinics with essential medical supplies, contributing significantly to the reduction of preventable deaths in underserved communities.
H.E. Samira Bawumia is a passionate advocate for girl-child education, reproductive health, gender parity, and the elimination of human trafficking. She has represented Ghana and the African continent at high-level international conferences and summits focused on family planning, human rights, and developmental equity—earning her respect as a strong voice for the voiceless.
Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where she graduated top of her class—a testament to her excellence, discipline, and leadership.
Beyond her public service, she is an avid reader, creative arts enthusiast, and a role model to many young Ghanaian women. Her vision is anchored in service, compassion, and the belief that strategic influence must translate into meaningful change for society’s most vulnerable.
She is married to H.E. Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, and they are proud parents of four children.
