The Government of Kano State has honoured Adam Alqali for emerging winner for the SDGs reporting category at the just ended 2018 West Africa Media Excellence Awards held in Accra, Ghana.

In a statement by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Gandunje OFR, the state congratulated Alqali, who is an indigene of the state, for being an ambassador of excellent journalism.

“As recipient of West Africa’s most prestigious media awards, you have no doubt proven yourself as a good ambassador, accomplished journalist committed to professional excellence who has done Kano and Nigeria proud,” said the statement which was published across many media outlets.

The Nation newspaper was one of the media outlets that published the statement.

Adam Alqali who works with the African Newspage was adjudged winner of the SDGs reporting category for his story titled: Out of school children: Nigeria’s ticking time-bomb.

The story focused on the untold plight of Nigeria’s over 10.5 million out-of-school children and the looming socioeconomic and security consequences the huge numbers of the children involved present to Nigeria.

The West Africa Media Excellence Awards is an initiative of the MFWA to promote media excellence in the sub region. The Awards honour journalists in West Africa who have produced compelling works which are impacting lives positively in society.
