Seven hundred and forty (740) entries have been received in the fourth edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA 2020) from 13 countries across West Africa.

Scheduled for November 13-14, 2020, at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ghana, this year’s event is on the theme: The Future of Journalism in Africa.

The conference will explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the news industry and what the industry needs to do to remain robust.

The entries from print, electronic and online media were submitted by journalists from over 185 media houses across the region.

“The number of entries that have come in this year is very impressive considering the short window we had to open the call for entries due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting our usual calendar. We are resolute in our commitment to promote journalism excellence and we are equally happy to have the support of journalists in the sub region on this journey,” said Abigail Larbi-Odei, programme manager Media and Good Governance at MFWA.

The entries will be evaluated by a jury made up of experienced and renowned journalists and media experts. The list of finalists for WAMECA 2020 will be announced in first week in November.

The West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards is an annual initiative of the MFWA to promote media excellence in the sub region.
